Antifreeze/Coolant Products Reference Guide

This regular green coolant has been in use for many years and is a universal low-silicate, all-purpose coolant designed for both automotive engines and heavy-duty diesel engines. It is best to start out with a premixed product that provides all-metal protection and a -34°F freeze protection. For automotive application, the generally recognized maintenance practice is to change this antifreeze every 30,000 miles or two years.

For diesel application, it is recommended that SCAs (Supplemental Coolant Additives) be added according to manufacturers' recommendations (typically every 15,000 to 20,000 miles) and a coolant change-out be performed at 200,000 miles. This frequent maintenance causes costly downtime. Today more economical alternatives are available.

Another type of coolant is a fully formulated SCA-precharged ethylene glycol based product blended with a premium quality additive package. It is a low-silicate coolant designed for use in heavy-duty diesel and natural-gas engines. Precharged with a high-quality SCA, the low total dissolved solids, low-silicate formulation provide maximum protection of the six basic metal alloys found in most heat-transfer systems.

For the ultimate, most economical maintenance solution we now have Extended-Life Coolant/Antifreezes. These products are among the best choices for fleets desiring to have their heavy-duty trucks stay on the road with minimal downtime. The carboxylate technological formulation helps meet the critical needs of modern heavy-duty engines. Maintenance is often simplified because there is no need for SCAs and extended-service life filters.

Extended-Life Coolant/Antifreeze can help provide up to 6 year/600,000 miles of protection.

Some of these products meet the European and Japanese heavy-duty manufacturers' nitrite-free requirements for passenger cars.
